Many Exchange/Office 365 enthusiasts are exited with a new Shared Parameter for *-remotemailbox but some may get disappointed when even after upgrading to Exchange 2013 CU 21, this option doesn’t come.

This feature is very helpful and can automate the whole process of creating recipients in Office 365 without use of mailbox migration. You can simply run new-remotemailbox command to directly create all type of mailboxes in office 365, earlier this feature was only available for room, user mailboxes.

Issue Description :-

Unable to see -shared parameters for new-remotemailbox cmdlets on on-prem Exchange Server 2013 CU 21.

Cause :-

  • Inclusion of this feature requires running /prepareAD switch using exchange server 2013 CU 21 binaries. Please run this account has ‘Schema Admins, Domain Admins, and Enterprise Admins’ permission.

setup /PrepareAD /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

OR

  • If you ran /PAD switch then that doesn’t work sometimes, hence re-running /prepareAD swith will fix the issue. I faced the issue in my implementation of exchange server.

Rhoderick Milne mentioned about this in his article as well.

 Fix :-

Run /prepareAD  switch and make sure you don’t use /PAD switch then that doesn’t work sometimes, hence re-running /switch will fix the issue. I faced the issue in one environment as well.
